Mary Isabel Rossman's Obituary
Mary "Isabel" Rossman, age 101, (eight days from 102), passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at her home, under the loving care of her family. Isabel was born November 21, 1914 in Grand Blanc, Michigan, the daughter of Dr. Wells C. and Mary E. (Harris) Reid. She was raised in Goodrich, Michigan and graduated from Goodrich High School Class of 1932.
Isabel graduated with a degree as a Dietician from Michigan State College in 1936. She started her career as a Dietician at Kalamazoo State Hospital then later took a position at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon until she started her family. Isabel married the love of her life, Perry H. Rossman on August 27, 1949 in Goodrich, Michigan. Together, they raised four wonderful children on the Rossman family farm near Lakeview. In 1961, Isabel continued working as a Consulting Dietician, traveling between six local area hospitals and a nursing home until her retirement in 1979.
Isabel enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge, and she was an active member of both the United Church of Christ in Lakeview, the UCC Women's Fellowship, the Friends of the Tamarack District Library, and the Michigan Farm Bureau. While raising her children, she was a 4-H Project Leader, and a Sunday School teacher. In retirement Isabel was also a volunteer for Hospice of Michigan. Her greatest passion was helping others and spending time with family.
Isabel will be deeply missed by her children Susan Rossman (Kent) Schultz of Mt. Pleasant, Elaine Rossman of Lakeview, Robert Rossman of Crested Butte, Colorado, and Dan (Denise) Rossman of Perrinton, Michigan; grandchildren Albertino Schultz, Diana (Jesse) Myers, Donnalee (Yuri) Quiaoit, Danae Rossman, Devon (Taylor) Rossman, and Bohdan Hartman; great-grandchildren Anne Myers, Jesse Daniel Myers, Perry Myers, Andrew Myers, Hope Myers, Joy Myers, Malaya Quiaoit, Caleb Quiaoit, Jocelyn Quiaoit, and Liesl Rossman; and countless friends and her church family.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband Perry H. Rossman; her parents Dr. Wells C. and Mary E. Reid; four siblings, her infant twin sister, Frances Reid, Dr. John Reid, and Helen (Reid) Weaver.
Funeral services for Isabel will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at the United Church of Christ in Lakeview with Pastor David England officiating. The family will be accepting visitors on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will be held at the church following the internment in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to: the Rossman Family Scholarship through the Lakeview Area Community Foundation, Gideon's International, or the United Church of Christ of Lakeview.
