Mary Lou Pennell's Obituary
Mary Lou Pennell, age 78, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 19, 1947, in Cheboygan, Michigan, to Lyman and Lorraine (Gouine) Wing. Mary grew up in Cheboygan before moving to Pontiac. She was first married to James Main, with whom she had one daughter. Later, she married Raymond Pennell, and together they shared three more children. As the oldest of 12 siblings, Mary was a natural leader. She was a devoted mother who spent her years at home caring for her family and was known for providing care for many other children in the community as well. She had a passion for crocheting blankets, enjoyed trips to Mackinaw, and loved playing bingo and euchre.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Theresa, Terri, Ray, and Pam; grandchildren, James, Samatha, Codey, Brittany, Dustin, Rose, Brett, and Dawson; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Brennan, Breanna, Baylynne, Dominic, Alexis, Arthur, and Penelope; siblings, Jim, David, Diane, Susan, Shirley, Kathy, Sally, Linda, and Martha, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lyman and Lorriane; first husband, James Main; second husband Raymond Pennell; and sisters Carol and Nancy.
A funeral service for Mary will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Community Baptist Church in Alma with Pastor Randy Brandon officiating. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Richland Township Cemetery, where Mary will be laid to rest beside her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Janowicz Family Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
