Maryea "Rye" Joy - Elizabeth Siddall - Giese's Obituary
Remus - Maryea “Rye” Joy- Elizabeth Siddall - Giese, 34, peacefully passed away on August 13, 2025, with her husband and mother by her side.
Born October 26, 1990, in Cheboygan, Michigan, to Daniel Paul Siddall Sr. and Joy Beth J. Siddall, Maryea spent her childhood in Cheboygan before moving to Remus, Michigan, at age 14. She attended Chippewa Hills High School, where she began as a freshman.
Maryea’s love for animals, and the outdoors began early—she participated in 4-H from the age of 2 and went on to show in NBHA Rodeo, compete in the Michigan Rodeo Association, ride with the high school equestrian team winning two state championships, and later coach the Chippewa Hills Equestrian Team until 2023. Maryea received an associate from Mid-Michigan Community College and attended Central Michigan University with focus on Animal Science. Maryea worked at The Animal Humane Society and The Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital. She was most at home in the country, enjoying the simple beauty of farm life.
She adored water and spent many joyful days living on Duncan Bay as a young girl. Whether swimming, hosting Friendsgiving’s and Christmas gatherings, cooking for loved ones, or tending her garden, Maryea created a warm, welcoming space for all. Compassionate, strong-willed, and deeply caring, she was a steadfast listener who encouraged others to slow down and appreciate life. Her favorite Bible passage, Matthew 7:1–5, reflected her open-hearted and nonjudgmental spirit.
On October 14, 2023, Maryea married the love of her life, Justin Giese. Together, they built a happy home on their farm, surrounded by their many animals, including their beloved dog Hank, horse Famous, and donkey Dusty.
Maryea is survived by her husband, Justin; her mother Joy Beth and Jim Hicks; brothers Daniel Siddall Jr. (Lauren) of Phoenix, AZ, and Travis Siddall (Amanda) of St. Louis, MI; nieces and nephew Mila, DJ, Landry, and Gretta; and her cherished animals. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Paul Siddall Sr.; grandparents Naomi and Steve Siddall and Joy and Sig Johnson; her beloved horse Genius, and KC James.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 5th, from 4:00 p.m. –7:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. A celebration of Maryea’s life will take place Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mike Biedenbender officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Animal Treatment Society of Mount Pleasant (https://www.hatsweb.org/) or to Chippewa Hills Equestrian Team (3226 Arthur Rd. Remus, MI 49340).
