Max Sawyer's Obituary
Max Sawyer, age 86 of Remus passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Medilodge in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial dinner will be held at the Mecosta VFW on Saturday, March 19th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Max was born May 19, 1929 in Blanchard, the son of Stanley and Wealthy (Guy) Sawyer. He was locally educated through Blanchard High School where he played Basketball. After moving to Detroit at the age of 19, Max worked for Detroit Edison for 37 years before retiring. He was a quiet, private person who could spend the entire day watching CNN. He loved music, taking pictures, watching Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters and was a huge NASCAR fan; he even raced motorcycles himself in his younger days. His favorite pastime was getting together with family and friends at the “Old Settler’s Picnic” every year.
Max is survived by his son, Gary Sr. (Lori) Todd; grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Kathy) Todd, Terrence Todd, and Sherri Todd; three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ione Todd and Peggy Williams.
Max is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Lyle and Worthy Sawyer and one sister, Donna Nelson.
