In Loving Memory - Melody Ann Panek- Big Rapids
Melody Ann Panek, 71, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2024, at her home
surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 10, 1952, in Flint, Michigan, Melody was the daughter of Carl and Beatrice (Morissette) Panek.
A graduate of Flint Northwestern High School, class of 1970, Melody's journey took her to San Francisco where she earned a degree in horticulture. She dedicated nearly eight years to landscaping before moving to Big Rapids. There, she furthered her passion by earning a Master's of Gardening Certificate. Her extensive knowledge and love for plants led her to a fulfilling career at Mike's Farm Market and Nursery. Later, she became the owner and operator of Melody's Downtown Floral Market in Big Rapids.
An avid gardener, Melody shared her expertise with the community through her well-loved column, "Let's Talk Flowers" in the local newspaper. Upon retirement, she moved to Round Lake near Mecosta, where she relished time with family and friends on her pontoon boat, fishing, camping, and enjoying campfires.
Family was the cornerstone of Melody's life. Known for her loving, bright, and childlike spirit, she found
immense joy in her large family. She was one of 14 children and was especially thoughtful and giving,
with a deep affection for children and animals alike.
Melody is survived by her siblings, Jack of Flint, Michael of Big Rapids, Judy O'Dell of Stanwood, Keith of Flint, Thomas of Flint, Pamela of Big Rapids, and Beatrice of Ironwood. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Becky, her dear friend Terri Duzenbury, and her beloved rescue dogs, Bougie and GeeGee.
Melody was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry, Carl, and Richard; her sisters, Ann, Patricia, and Katherine; her sister-in-law, Kelly Panek; and her brother-in-law, Roger O'Dell.
Funeral services for Melody will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with her sister, Pamela Panek, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends at the funeral home starting at 11 a.m. on Friday until the time of services.
