Melvin C Erskin's Obituary
Melvin Clarence Erskin, 90 passed away December 23, 2016 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mel was born July 8, 1926 the son of Royal and Mary (Hawk) Erskin. He proudly served in country in the United States Army. Mel went on to marry the former Betty Lance on October 27, 1947 in Angola, IN; she preceded him in death on April 12, 1995.
Mel owned and operated Erskin's White Rose Gas Station for 12 years. He also drove truck and was a diesel mechanic. Mel enjoyed singing and attending Gospel Jamborees, going to the casino, dancing, fishing and especially spending time with his family. He was a member of the Seville Church of God, Edmore VFW Post 2292 and the Six Lakes American Legion Post 225.
Mel is survived by his children; Connie Cornell, Karen (Vic) Sheets and Chuck Erskin, 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, 2 great=great-grandsons; 2 brothers; Raymond (Betty) Erskin and Royal Erskin Jr., sister; Carol (Mike) Brophy, special friends Emily Bennett and her children; Angie and Laura, and his extended family; Sandy and Patty. Besides his wife Betty, Mel was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Nyle, Clare, Evelyn, Donna Jean and Geraldine, special nephew; Butch, son in-law; John Cornell and a very dear friend; Ruth Phelps.
Funeral Services for Mel will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Brigham Funeral Chapel-Vestaburg with Pastor George Showers to officiate. Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Brigham Funeral Chapel-Vestaburg from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider Seville Church of God or Montcalm County Commission on Aging.
