Merele L. Eaton's Obituary
Big Rapids Merle L. Eaton, 88, of White Cloud, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at his residence. He was born December 12, 1920, in Flint, the son of Merle and Gertrude (Thompson) Eaton. During WWII, Merle served with the US Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Flint, and worked as a Tool and Die maker for General Motors for over 30 years. Upon retirement, Merle moved to his property near White Cloud where he had lived since. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge, and enjoyed hunting. In 1969, Merle married Emma R. Hoisington, who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Shirley Mergan of Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Anne (William) Anderson of Flushing; 1 step-daughter, Janet Bannacki of Flint; 8 grandchildren, Robert Martin, Richard Martin, Patricia Fuller, Jackie Mergan, Jerry Mergan, Jennifer Bannacki, Rebecca Bannacki, and Jeffery Bannacki; 6 great-grand children, Kyle, Jenny, R.J., Dallas, Mercedes, and Lindsey; 1 great-great-grandson, Casen; a special nephew, Don (Donna) Eaton of Newaygo; great nephew Ron (Debbie) Eaton of Newaygo; and special friends Carolyn Shotts of White Cloud and Tony Martin of Davison. Merle was preceded in death by his son William Glen Eaton in 1996. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with his daughter, Pastor Shirley Mergan officiating. Burial will be in the Crestwood Cemetery in Grand Blanc. Memorial contributions for the Hospice of Michigan may be left at the funeral home, where Merles family will greet friends after 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
