Michael Allen Owens' Obituary
Michael Allen Owens, age 78, of Mecosta, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife by his side on June 9, 2026. He was born on June 22, 1947, in Plymouth, Michigan, to Allen and Billodean Owens.
On June 19, 1971, Michael married the love of his life, Pamela Clark. Together they shared nearly 55 years of unwavering love, partnership, and devotion, building a beautiful life centered on family, friendship, and gratitude.
Michael dedicated much of his professional life to education. He began his career as a teacher at Brethren High School before joining Central Michigan University in 1971. Over the course of 38 years at CMU, he served in numerous leadership roles, including Associate Dean, Director of Admissions, and Executive Assistant to President. His commitment to students and higher education left a lasting impact on countless lives. He retired from Central Michigan University in 2009.
A gifted writer and poet, Michael had a way with words that reflected his wisdom, humor, and appreciation for life. He often remarked, “I feel so lucky,” a phrase that perfectly captured his outlook and gratitude for every day he was given.
Michael loved spending time with his family and was deeply devoted to his three sons and six grandchildren. He cherished teaching his sons to golf, sharing life lessons, and celebrating their accomplishments. One of his proudest moments was presenting each of his sons with their college diplomas upon graduation.
Known for his warm personality and wonderful sense of humor, Michael enjoyed meaningful conversations with people of all ages. He especially loved encouraging young people as they navigated life’s choices, often reminding them that “everything in life is a choice.” He was a thoughtful, others-centered man who genuinely cared about those around him.
Michael enjoyed golfing, spending time with friends, writing, reading and cruising around Mecosta on his golf cart, greeting neighbors along the way. He loved water skiing—even at the age of 70—and never lost his adventurous spirit. He also had a special fondness for ice cream and firmly believed in the simple philosophy: “Love where you live, love what you do, and love who you are with.”
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Owens; his mother, Billodean Owens; his sons, Matthew (Alisa) Owens, Scott (Kate) Owens, and Blake (Catherine) Owens; his sister, Patricia (Steve) Gossard; and his cherished grandchildren, Grace, Audrey, Riley, Parker, Lane, and Jace.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Owens.
Michael lived a charmed life filled with love, laughter, friendship, and purpose. His wisdom, kindness, and gratitude will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
