Millie Emma Dunn's Obituary
Millie Emma Dunn, 81, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, at her home. She was born on February 18, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Millie met the love of her life, Ken Dunn, in 1966. The two were married on September 15, 1967, in Camden, New Jersey, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned nearly sixty years.
Millie dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a registered nurse whose career was primarily spent serving residents in nursing homes. Her compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment culminated in her role as Director of Nursing at the Lutheran Home in Monroe, Michigan, before she retired. Millie deeply loved the residents she cared for and took great pride in ensuring they were treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.
She was a faithful member of Grant Center Global Methodist Church. Millie was richly creative and found joy in knitting, crocheting, and sewing quilts—lovingly making a quilt for every member of her family. She also enjoyed painting rocks, drawing, and photography, especially capturing images of her family and her beloved lighthouses. One of her greatest joys was spending time outdoors, particularly rock hunting, beach combing, and relaxing on the beach in the sunshine. Above all, Millie cherished time spent with her family.
Millie is survived by her loving husband, Ken Dunn; her children, Jennifer (Raymond) Richards, Jael (James) Batty, Leslie Dunn, John Dunn, Lukas (Mollie) Dunn, and Kenneth (Heather) Dunn Jr.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; cousins (“sisters”), Leslie (David) Wagner and Adele Harris; brother, George (Sandra) Williamson; sisters, Karen (Robert) Johnson, Ellen Owens, and Janice Collins; her brothers- and sister-in-law, John Dunn, David Dunn, and Barbara Philbrick; and several nieces and nephews.
Millie will be remembered for her compassionate heart, creative spirit, deep faith, and the love she freely gave to all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Grant Center Methodist Church. Care and arrangements are entrusted to Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
