Mose E. Shrock's Obituary
Morley Mose E. Shrock, 72, of Morley, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008, at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born July 19, 1936, in LaGrange, IN, the son of Elmer and Lizzie (Mast) Shrock. In 1959, Mose joined the U.S. Army, and served as a Medical Corpsman and ambulance driver in Germany. Following his discharge in 1962, he returned to Indiana, where he lived and worked until moving to Morley in 1968. Mose was well known as a stone mason, having built many silos and helping on many farms in the area. An accomplished musician, Mose was a member of the Original Michigan Fiddlers Association (OMFA). He handcrafted fiddle bows, and wrote over 100 songs, of which several are recorded and copywrited. In his later years, Mose loved to piece together and sew quilt tops. He was also a member of the Morley American Legion Post #554. Surviving are his special friend, Ella Myers of Morley, and her family; 3 brothers, Ralph (Anna) of LaGrange, IN, Delbert (Betty) of Topeka, IN, and Lester (Katie) of Shipshewana, IN; 1 sister, Mary (Lester) Miller of Howe, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Mose was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Helen. Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Philip J. Bongard officiating. Burial will be in the Aetna Cemetery in Morley. Memorial contributions for the Original Michigan Fiddlers Association may be left in care of funeral home, where his family will greet friends on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and prior to services on Monday.
