Myrle Sagendorf's Obituary
Myrle Sagendorf, age 99, formerly of Edmore, Michigan, passed from this life into her heavenly home on January 27, 2021. She was born on a farm near Entrican, the daughter of Laura (Larsen) and Thorkild Christensen on September 21, 1921 along with her twin sister Mabel. Upon graduating from Stanton High School in 1939, she spent the following five years, during WWII, working in Greenville as a seamstress at Wolverine Glove Factory and later at Federal Mogul. She lived the last 6 years at Rest Haven Home in Grand Rapids, MI.
In 1945, she married Wilbur Sagendorf, a dairy farmer. Together they raised four children and enjoyed 52 years together. She took over many of the farm chores when Wilbur began working at Hitachi in Edmore and served on the Montcalm County Canvassing Board for 25 years.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Edmore, was a member of the Townline Extension Club in early years, Six Lakes Senior Citizens, Michigan Farmers Union, the Entrican Gleaner Arbor and was a member of the Six Lakes Museum.
She was proud of her Danish heritage and in 1987 she was able to visit some of her relatives in Denmark, a "dream come true". She enjoyed baking, sewing, crafts, traveling and reading, but her family most of all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thorkild and Laura Christensen; husband, Wilbur Sagendorf; brother, Leroy Christensen; sisters, Lucille Thompsen and twin Mabel Crooks. She is survived by her son, Wendell and JoAnn Sagendorf of Belvidere, IL.; 3 daughters and son-in-laws, Karen and Dick Stewart of Owosso, MI., Sue and Paul Johnston of Grand Rapids, MI., and Rene and Dean Hamilton of Thornton, CO.; 7 grandchildren, Laura and Jarot Karcher, Tony and Sandy Tupper, Shane and Mindy Tupper, Hannah and Jeremy Heis, Aaron and Christie Johnston, Sarah and Brian Cooper, and John Hamilton and 18 great- grandchildren; one sister, Ardith Lavender and one sister-in-law Dorita Sagendorf; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many in Denmark.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes. A memorial service will follow at a later date to be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Edmore, Rest Haven Home in Grand Rapids or the Home Township Library in Myrle Sagendorf's name. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. We often said she was the glue that held us all together!
