Nyda Ellen Barrix's Obituary
Lakeview-Nyda Ellen (Kelley) Barrix, age 92, formerly of Six Lakes and Dimondale, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Turning Brook Assisted Living in Alpena. She was born in Six Lakes on June 2, 1929, the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (Reed) Kelley. Nyda graduated from Williamston Public Schools where she was active in band and the lead majorette her junior year. Nyda married the love of her life, Charles Barrix on April 1, 1949, in Lansing and they spent 66 years together before his passing in 2015. She was employed by the Michigan Education Association for 17 years. Nyda loved being a wife and mother. While raising her family she was a member of the PTA and a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years, during which time she took her troop on a trip to Washington DC. Nyda sang in the choir and was faithful member at the First Presbyterian Church in Dimondale for over 20 years. Charles and Nyda loved to travel, taking extended trips to Europe, Hawaii and Iceland. They also spent 8 years exploring the United States and Canada while living in their Air Stream trailer. After which they retired, spending winters in Melbourne, FL, and summers in Six Lakes, MI. Nyda will be remembered as an excellent cook, and a kind, generous woman who loved life, her family, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Nyda will forever be missed and is survived by her children, Stephen (LaVergne) Barrix of Homer-Glen, IL, Marsha Barrix of Alpena; son-in-law, Kirk Hooper of Northville; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Norman Kelley and James Edwin (Marlene) Kelley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughter, Sue Hooper; granddaughter, Misi; parents, Clarence and Jennie; and siblings, Max, Gene, Bobby, Margie, Bonnie and Shirl.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2022, at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes with Pastor Terri Cummins officiating. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes will follow.
