Ophia Elizabeth Snyder's Obituary
Vestaburg- Ophia Elizabeth Snyder passed away June 9, 2018 at Warwick Living Center in Alma. Ophia was born to Victor and Barbara (Bellar) Sevits on November 5, 1917 in Spencerville, Indiana. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she attended school at home. She went through nurses training from 1936 to 1939 and then attended Goshen College in 1947 where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 1949. She also attended Hesston College in 1946 and 1947.
She was a missionary to Puerto Rico for 25 years where she worked as an RN for the Mennonite Hospital. On July 9, 1949, Ophia married the love of her life Royal A. Snyder in Fort Wayne, IN. Ophia enjoyed cooking, studying her bible and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a member of the Crystal Church of the Brethren
Ophia will be missed by her children, Victor (Soami) Snyder of Puerto Rice, Daniel Snyder of Vestaburg, Elizabeth Snyder of Vestaburg, Diane Snyder of Vestaburg; her daughter-in-law Doris Snyder of Vestaburg; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She will be welcomed by her husband, Royal Snyder; her son John Snyder; her grandson John Roy Snyder; six sisters, Mary Ann Sevits, Anna Sevits, Rose Sevits, Margaret Sevits, Eleanor Sevits and Esther Sevits; and 2 brothers Henry Sevits and Elmer Sevits.
Services for Ophia will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. the Ferris Center Church of Christ in Vestaburg with Kelly Isman officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and a luncheon will follow the service. A Committal at the Ferris Center Cemetery will take place at a later date.
