Oscar Emery Dennis' Obituary
Big Rapids Oscar Emery Dennis, 92, of Big Rapids passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 2, 1918 in Oblong, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Dessie (Smith) Dennis. He moved to La Porte, Indiana to work at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant where me met and married Violet Whitaker on December 11, 1943. In 1952 Oscar and Violet moved to Big Rapids where he worked as a mechanic at Rosander Chevrolet. He later worked at Ferris in maintenance, retiring in 1980. Oscar is survived by his wife, Violet, one son, Ira (Diane) Dennis of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, Brooke Dennis, one great granddaughter Alexis, two sisters; Gladys Turmanof Gladewater, Texas, Louise Black of Oblong, Illinois, one sister-in-law, Marie Hernandez of South Bend, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Herman Dennis, Otis Potter, four sisters; Cleo Burris, Mae Thompson, Pauline Richey and Bernadine Weger. Oscar enjoyed golfing, camping an Ham radio. He had served as a Mecosta Township Trusteeand Deputy Sheriff of Mecosta County.Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Mike Riegler officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Plains Cemetery. Oscars family will greet friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to services.Memorial contributions may be made to Third Avenue United Methodist Church of to Hospice of Michigan. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
