Patricia Ann Johansen's Obituary
Lakeview - On Monday, August 6, 2018, Patricia Ann Johansen, 83, of Six Lakes, formally of Big Rapids, passed away and the Lord gave her wings to go Home.
She was born May 26, 1935, on a dairy farm southeast of Big Rapids, the youngest of 11 children born to Clyde and Ida (Bartoo) Bowman. Pat was stricken with polio in 1952 and lost most of the function of her right arm and hand; however, she lived a full and joyous life of raising her children, knitting, crocheting, painting, fishing, writing, and canning.
She married her husband Gerald and celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Pat and Gerald and six children moved to Six Lakes in 1965 and enjoyed the lake, the community and friends of the area.
Pat worked at the Tri-County Community Hospital as a nursing assistant and then at Kelsey Memorial Hospital in Lakeview. She furthered her knowledge in respiratory care and worked at Kelsey as a respiratory technician.
She was a member of the Gentle Shepherd church of Six Lakes and enjoyed the community of worshippers there. A true joy to her was the opportunity for her Gerald to travel to Nova Scotia and visit Peggy's Cove, and to Branson, Missouri.
Her love of music, nature and art has inspired her family and friends, and she shared many of her paintings with family members. She and Gerald attended many events where fiddlers, country singing, and good food were shared. For many years, Pat was a counter of birds for the Audubon Society. Birds and wildlife alike enjoyed the banquet she provided near her kitchen window.
Surviving are her children Lisa (Luther) Pollok, Julie Johansen, Debi (Tim) Knopf, Gerald (Dawn) Johansen and Chris (Dick) Borchardt; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, 30 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Wilma (Hull) Bowman, sisters-in-law Betty Johansen, Doris Johansen, Ida Mae Maneke, Arlene (Herb) Wilson, Ruth Ann (Don) McCarthy, Barb and Glen (Dalton), Josephine Ottobre; and Johansen brothers- in- law Glenn, Sonny (Betty), Floyd (Mary), and Charlie (Judy). She was also preceded in death by her son Steve.
Pat's family would like to recognize the dedicated and loving care provided by the staff of The Lakeview Terrace, and the diligent, compassionate services of Spectrum Hospice.
Services for the celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Robert Jones officiating. Pat's family will greet friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions in her name may be made for the Alzheimer's Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
