Paul Robert Spagnuolo's Obituary
Paul Robert "Bob" Spagnuolo, age 82, of Big Rapids died Tuesday, June 5, 2012. He was born to Frank and Virginia Spagnuolo in Mt. Pleasant on July 31, 1929. Bob attended school at Sacred Heart Academy and Central Michigan College before entering law school at U. of D. After three semesters there he returned to Central to complete instruction for teaching credentials. This began his long and beloved career as a teacher starting with junior high students and ending as a professor at Ferris State University. Bob also completed a Masters Degree and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He retired from Ferris in 1995 after 38 years and thousands of students. "I've had the best profession on earth" he told his wife of 48 years, Ann. While at Ferris, Bob created a class on the Constitution for the criminal justice program, became the first Faculty Association president after helping create the organization, was elected to the Big Rapids Public School board on two occasions which allowed him the perk of handing his own children a diploma at graduation. Bob is survived by his wife Ann, children Michael and Ellen Spagnuolo of Shelby Township, Kirstin and Carl Smalec of Elsie, Shelley and Robert Jackson of Okemos and Daniel and Andrea Spagnuolo of Zeeland, and ten beautiful grandchildren. Funeral services for Bob will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 8, 2012 at Big Rapids First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM Thursday, June 7 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the Big Rapids Library.
