Paul William Wiseman's Obituary
Big Rapids - Paul W. "Wug" Wiseman, 98, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his residence.
He was born February 5, 1923, in Iron River, WI, the son of Rodias and Pauline (Prytz) Wiseman. Wug grew up in Champion, MI, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1941. During World War II, Wug served with the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star for the liberation of the Philippines.
Following his discharge in 1946, Wug enrolled in Ferris Institute. He was a member of the Bulldog football team, and was the oldest living football team alumnus. In 1949, he married Joyce Grummet, and they settled in Big Rapids. For many years Wug worked as a Landman at the Austin Gas Fields and for MichCon.
He was a member of Christ Harvest Ministries Church in Big Rapids. Wug also was a member of the AmVets Post #1941, and the BPO Elks #974. He loved spending time on his farm west of Big Rapids tending his cattle and horses.
In 1988 Wug married Donelda Boyd, who preceded him in death in 2015. He is survived by 2 sons, Jon (Barb) Wiseman, and Rex (Nancy) Wiseman; 2 stepdaughters, Ronca Boyd, and Carla (Phil) Erlewine, all of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mark) Solis, Katie (Ken) McLeod, Justin Wiseman, Rob (Jenilee) Olson, Kristy (Scott) Thompson, Kerry (Zack) Dukes, Erica McLaughlin, and Adrienne (Derek) Shiels; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Wug was also preceded in death by his brothers Jon and Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2021, at Christ Harvest Ministries, 701 Woodward Avenue in Big Rapids, with Pastor Lynn Winans officiating. Burial will follow in the highland View Cemetery, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #98 Honor Guard. Wug's family will greet friends at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions in his name may be made for the Mecosta County Commission on Aging.
