Peter Chesebrough's Obituary
Peter Chesebrough, 72, formerly of Ludington and Big Rapids, Peter Newhall Chesebrough, 72, died May 16, 2014, at Tendercare of Ludington from brain cancer. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at the United Church in Big Rapids, Michigan at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at St. Mary's Parish Center in Big Rapids. Peter was born October 7, 1941 in California, to James and Ellenor Chesebrough. He graduated from Stevenson High School in 1959 and attended Stanford University and San Jose State University. Peter served in the United States Navy as an IC Electrician on Nuclear Power Submarines from 1960 until 1967. After his discharge, he moved to Iowa and was employed by Des Moines Area Community College as a Media Specialist, where he met and married Carol Ann Coats in 1977. Peter spent the next 20 years as an Electronics Technology Professor at Valencia Community College in Florida and Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan until he retired in 1995. Peter was an active member of many organizations including the Big Rapids Area Amateur Radio Club, Rotary Club, Mecosta County Community Foundation, and Stage-M. He is survived by his wife, Carol, step-son Cade (Laura) Coats of Ontario, Canada; daughter Cameron (Ian) Stearns of Eugene, Oregon; grandchildren, Brooke Coats of Ontario, Canada, and William and Paul Stearns of Eugene, Oregon.; and brother James (Marilyn) Chesebrough of Texas. Peter was preceded in death by his father in 1988 and his mother in 1995. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mayo Clinic, Brain Cancer Research, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
