Philip Bruce Maynard's Obituary
Alanson - Philip Bruce Maynard, 77, of Alanson, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, June 9, 2017, at his residence He was born June 30, 1939, in Barryton, the son of Philip W. and Margaret E. (Scofield) Maynard. Raised in Midland, Philip graduated from Midland High School in 1957, where he lettered in track and cross-country. Following his graduation, Philip attended Manchester College in Indiana, and later Central Michigan University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Philip then began his career in Civil Service with the U.S. Government. He first started with the Department of Agriculture, later the Department of the Army, and ended in the Department of Energy, retiring in 1996 after 23 years of service. Philip split his time enjoying the spring and summer months in Northern Michigan at his cottage on Pickerel Lake, and the fall and winter months at his home in Georgia. Phil loved to fish, loved his classic cars, and loved his music, especially his collection of cassettes and compact discs from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Phil is survived by two sons, William (Patty) Glawe of Midland, Philip (Amy) Glawe of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Nina Joye and Philip Tyler; his sister Garland Elaine (Chris) Moore of Concord, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Phil will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Burial will follow in the Martiny Cemetery near Rodney. Philip's family will greet friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
