Phillip Jerry "Flipper" Johnson's Obituary
Phillip Jerry "Flipper" Johnson, age 73, of Vestaburg, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland. He was born on November 26, 1944 in Arcada Township in Gratiot County, the son of John Leslie and Hazel Ellen (Wing) Johnson. He was raised in Vestaburg on the family farm on Pine Grove Road.
Upon graduating from Vestaburg High School Class of 1964, Phillip continued his education earning a Degree as a Mechanical Engineer through an engineering school in Minneapolis. Phillip was employed by Union 334/706 in Saginaw, Michigan as a carpenter until retiring in 1995. He proudly passed his talents onto his children.
Phillip enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, sports, Detroit Free Press puzzles, Sudoku, color tours, photography, working with wood, and spending time with family and friends.
Phillip will be missed by three sons Kirk Lee (Charlotte) Johnson of Vestaburg, Kevin L (Michelle Onstott) Johnson of Remus, and Kim J. (Leslie) Johnson of Vestaburg; grandchildren Kody (Marissa), Kyle (Rachel), Kolby, Matthew, Elizabeth Ann Katherine, and Alexandria Katherine, (all Johnson's); great-grandchildren Kaiden and Christian Johnson; siblings Joyce (Dom) Hinderlang of Vestaburg, Keith Johnson of Zephyr Hills, FL, Ted Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Richard (Julia Graham) Johnson of Vestaburg, and John (Kandy) Johnson of Orlando, FL; brother-in-law Al Friesch of Midland; countless nieces, nephews, friends, and union brothers.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents John and Hazel Johnson; son Kenneth Jerry Johnson; siblings William "Bill" (Jackie) Johnson, Ruby (Don) Sutton, Mary (Clayton) Sanders, Thelma (Bonneville "Bonnie") Smith, and Genevieve Friesch; and sister-in-law Shirley Johnson.
