Reva Joy Leyder's Obituary
Reva Joy Leyder, 93, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. She was born on December 26, 1931, in Barryton, MI, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Aris) Walters.
A dedicated member of the Community of Christ Church, Reva found joy in simple, meaningful activities that enriched her life and the lives of others. She loved sewing, quilting, and knitting, often sharing her beautiful creations with family and friends. Reva embraced these crafts as a source of purpose and healing, and she also enjoyed reading, beading, and playing BINGO. A true homebody at heart, she cherished her time spent with family and maintained a deep bond with her loved ones.
Reva’s life was centered on her family. For years, she lived next door to her mother and close to her sister Betty, with whom she shared countless treasured moments. Her devotion extended to her children, Dale (Sue) Leyder, Alan (Cindy) Leyder, Ronald DDS (Barbara) Leyder, and Cheryl (Gregory) Wellman; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Keith Walters; and a former exchange student who became family, Luzia Tartari.
Reva was preceded in death by her loving husband, Junior; her parents; grandson, Christopher Leyder; brother, Roland Walters; and dear sister and lifelong companion, Betty Verrill.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Reva’s family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Reva will be laid to rest alongside Junior at Pine Plains Cemetery in the spring.
The family welcomes memorial contributions in Reva’s honor to Heartland Hospice of Fremont, whose care and compassion made her final days peaceful
