Richard Fredrick Garner's Obituary
Richard Fredrick Garner, age 80, of Blanchard, Michigan, passed away on December 8, 2024.
Born on November 10, 1944, to Fred and Velita (Gietzen) Garner, he was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Richard grew up in Blanchard and dedicated much of his life to serving others. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, he taught for a few years before transitioning to a career at Morbark, where he became a supervisor. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were always evident, and he made lasting contributions in every role he took on.
Outside of work, Richard’s passions were many. He was an avid gardener, known for his green thumb and love of hobby farming. His dedication to the community was evident through his role in organizing the Remus Heritage Day softball tournaments, which he coordinated for many years. Richard was also a huge fan of Michigan State University sports and could often be found cheering on the Spartans, especially at games with his family by his side.
Richard’s greatest love, however, was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and sibling, never missing a chance to support his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. His caring nature and easygoing demeanor made him a friend to many, and he will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and sense of humor. Whether enjoying a cup of coffee at the Crystal Fountain Restaurant in Blanchard or sharing a story with loved ones, Richard’s presence was a steady and cherished part of his community.
He is survived by his wife for 37 years, Angie Garner; children: Tanya (Bob) Underhill, Marcus (Megan) Garner, and Keshia (Jelon) Hudson; his siblings: Bob (Joyce) Garner, Judy (Raul) Hernandez, and Alan Garner; and his grandchildren: TJ, Rood, Julius, Emmitt, McCoy, McKuiper, Lia, and Dezmond, and many
nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Velita Garner.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Richard’s life will be held on July 13, 2025, at 2 p.m.at
Sylvester Community Church.
Richard’s legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family, friends,
and the Blanchard community. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
