Richard Allen Jennings' Obituary
Big Rapids - Richard Allen Jennings, 78, of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Michigan Medicine: University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
He was born January 20, 1940, in Napoleon, OH, the son of Marcus P. and Veda G. (Grim) Jennings, and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1957.
In 1964, Richard moved to Big Rapids when his parents bought the Big Rapids Mobile Home Court, which he helped operate. On September 24, 1966, he married Rose Mary Winkler, and in 1970, the couple purchased the business. Richard and Rose Mary have operated the mobile home court since then, and also own Jennings Mobile Home Sales.
Richard attended the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. He was a former member of the Big Rapids Optimist Club, and was active with Boy Scout Troop #114 for many years. His life was centered around his love for family, and camping was a favorite pastime. He also enjoyed annual trips to Walt Disney World in Florida with his family. This is followed by his love and concern for the friends (residents) of the Mobile Home Court at 606 Bjornson, which was a very special part of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife Rose Mary; their son Bill and wife Kathy of Lansing; 2 grandsons, Tyler and fiancée Emily Love, and Evan; his brother George and wife Josephine of Mt. Pleasant; 2 brothers-in-law, David and Walter Winkler of White Cloud; several nieces and nephews; and his buddy Snickers. Richard was preceded in death by their daughter Susan in 1994.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery. Richard's family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Boy Scout Troop #114, or for the Charles E. Fairman Community Pool, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
