Richard Glen Karcher's Obituary
Richard Glen Karcher, 91, of Remus, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by this family on December 17, 2024. Born on June 19, 1933, to Glen and Dora (Priest) Karcher, Richard was one of eleven children raised in a close-knit family.
After graduating high school, Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, a period of his life he often reflected on with great pride. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Elaine Hessel, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories for 71 years.
Richard was a man of many passions. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing softball. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine, and their five children: Christy (Andrew) Reynolds, Cherie (Mike) Sweeney, Glen (Sandy) Karcher, Duane (Mary) Karcher, Kirk (Mary) Karcher. He also leaves behind 12 beloved grandchildren: Monica (Tim) Jackson, Michael (Jennifer) Sweeney, Matt (Meressa) Sweeney, Audra (Casey) Whetstone, Drew (Jenny) Reynolds, Kezz (Nicole) Karcher, Trent (Danielle) Karcher, Jake Karcher (Paige Kettel), Duran (Jenelle) Karcher, Kara Karcher (Travis Stanley), Hannah (Brandon) Horan, and Halie (Matt) Zaun, as well as 25 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Larry (Nancy) Karcher, Robert (Karen) Karcher, Sharlene (Chuck) Hurdle, Carrol Cox, Norma Meeker, and Sharon Farrell. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Barry Karcher, Bernice Snyder, Darlene Howard, and Donna Howard.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, with Father Tom Boufford officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 20, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus and again one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A rosary will take place at 5:30PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be directed to Heartland Hospice of Fremont, Michigan, Royal View, VFW of Mecosta, or the St. Michael School Foundation. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and the church.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his zest for life, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed.
