Ricky "Rick" Donald Ackerson's Obituary
Lakeview - Ricky "Rick" Donald Ackerson, age 67, of Lakeview passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Trinity Health Mercy Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Sheridan on January 22, 1956, the son of Donald and Adabel (Holliday) Ackerson. Rick was raised in the Greenville area where he attended school, graduating with the Class of 1975, and continuing his education in plumbing and heating at Kent Skill Center in Grand Rapids. He was employed at Electrolux in Greenville for 22 years, and then various area plumbing and heating contractors before opening his own business, Ackerson Heating and Cooling in 2006 until his retirement. Rick married the love of his life, Cathy Gilbert on November 1, 1975, in Lakeview. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, watching movies, reading and helping people. Even while in the hospital, he shared the instructions to repair one last furnace. Rick was a kind man with a big heart who loved his family deeply. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. Rick survived by his wife 47 years, Cathy Ackerson of Lakeview; daughters, Lisa (Tim) Young of Valparaiso, IN, Katie (Mike Burgess of Lakeview; grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney Moore; brothers, Randy (Mariann) Ackerson of Greenville, Ray (Karen) Ackerson of Gowen, Roger (Nancy) Ackerson of Coral; unofficial 5th brother, Darrell Way of Stanton; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Dolores Gilbert of Lakeview, brother-in-law, Gary (Julie) Gilbert of Nashville, MI; sister-in- law, Julie (Ron ) Menard of North Dakota; aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Adabel; and his faithful companion, Jerry. A celebration of Rick's life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview.
