Robert Delfin Bailey's Obituary
Lakeview-Robert Delfin Bailey, age 92, of Lakeview passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born on January 26, 1932, the son of Robert L. and Bernice (Thomas) Bailey, in Grand Rapids where he was also raised. Bob attended Union High School, graduating with the Class of 1951. He entered the United States Air Force in 1952 serving honorably for 4 years in intelligence reconnaissance before his discharge. During that time, he became a prisoner of war in Korea after being shot down and captured. Thankfully, he was released in a prisoner swap after 2 weeks. Upon returning home Robert continued his education at Grand Rapids Junior College and Kendall School of Design. He was employed as owner/operator of a moving and storage company for 53 years before retiring in 2006. Bob enjoyed working in his yard, bird watching, fishing, cooking, eating and puttering around the house. He was a talented artist, and a member of the Christ the King St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview. He loved helping others and will be fondly remembered as "Uncle Bob", by his nieces, nephews, their friends and his church family. Bob is survived by several nieces and nephews; and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bernice; and siblings, Patricia Martin, Delores Walke; Nancy Rohloff. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview with Reverend James VanderLaan officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment will be with his parents at Resurrection Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
