Robert Bob Barnhart's Obituary
Big Rapids Robert S. Bob Barnhart, 86, of Canadian Lakes, passed away peacefully Friday, March 26, 2009, at Metron in Big Rapids. He was born August 29, 1922, in Marion, Ohio, the son of Cary C. and Pearle (Coler) Barnhart. After attending college, Bob joined the U. S. Air Force, serving as a crewman on a B-24 during WWII, stationed in England and Scotland. On January 27, 1947, Bob married Alexandra (nee Hogg). He then enjoyed a 27 year career with the FBI, travelling throughout the eastern U.S. until retiring and moving to the Detroit in 1978. In 1987, the couple re-located to Canadian Lakes, where they had lived since. Bob was an active member of local theatre groups, the Canadian Lakes Merri-Men chorus, and the Northland United Methodist Church chorus. He loved to sing baritone, and was pleased that people enjoyed listening to him. He was grateful to God for the talent he was given. His wife, Alexandra, preceded Bob in death on November 6, 2003. Surviving is his son, Robert Barnhart Jr. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood, with Rev. Dominic Tommy officiating. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the Northland United Methodist Church may be left at the church, where Bobs family will greet friends prior to the service on Friday.
