Robert Edward Bechaz's Obituary
Morley - Robert Edward Bechaz ,76, of Morley, MI, passed away peacefully Friday, February 12, 2021, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1944, in Big Rapids, the son of Oswald and Jane (Hosier) Bechaz. Bob graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1962. In May of 1965, Bob joined the National Guard, and was called to serve in the troubled times of the 1967 Detroit Riots.
In the late 60's Bob began working for Consumer's Power as an operator of Roger's Heights, Croton and Hardy Dam, retiring in 1996. In addition, he had an active beef farm where he and his family raised beef cattle.
Bob loved the outdoors, if he wasn't on the tractor, he was hunting or fishing. He and his many hunting buddies enjoyed coon, bobcat, bear or mountain lion hunting.
On November 6, 1965, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Romine who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Shan (Lisa) Bechaz of Petoskey, and Scott (Caio) Bechaz of Toledo, OH; his two grandsons Cody (Liz) Bechaz of Grand Rapids, and Dylan (Elizabeth Barutt) of Petoskey; his great-granddaughter Layla, whom he adored; his sisters, Janice Streeter of Texas, and Mary (Wes) Bigelow of Morley; his brother John (Wendy) Bechaz of Morley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (June) Romine of Big Rapids, Joyce Cozat of Durand, and Leona (Dan) Metcalf of Mulliken; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerald.
Robert was an active member of Morley's American Legion #554 were his memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow next Saturday, February 20, 2021. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
