Robert "Bob" Nihl Cross' Obituary
Lakeview - Robert "Bob" Nihl Cross, age 90, of Stanton passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Bob was born on June 5, 1932, to Nihl and Lillian (Gyger) Cross in Entrican, where he was also raised. He attended school in Lakeview, graduating with the Class of 1950. Bob married the love of his life, Altona Jensen on February 2, 1952, at the Edmore Lutheran Church. He was self-employed as a farmer and then as the owner of Cross Home Improvement for many years, after working as a carpenter for Gust Construction for 10 years. Bob and Altona retired in 1995. In their younger years they loved to travel, including trips to Alaska twice, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, and Panama. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending winters in Florida. Bob loved being with his family and absolutely doted on his wife. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lakeview. Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Altona Cross of Stanton; son, David (Janet) Cross of Stanton; daughter, Lori (Steve) DeForest of Blanchard; grandchildren, Brian (Nicole) Cross, Derek (Ashleigh) Cross; 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sheila Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Doris Cannon, Noreen Abbey; brothers-in-law, Marvin Cannon, Mick Abbey, Duane Smith and Preston Jensen. The family will greet friends from 2:00-4:00 PM, with a guest speaker at 3:00 PM on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Entrican. Those wishing to donate in Bob's memory are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association.
