Robert Harrison Buskirk's Obituary
Robert Harrison Buskirk, 93, of Six Lakes, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 8, 2026.
Robert was born on August 20, 1932 in Stanton, Michigan, the son of Covel Harrison Buskirk and Emma Ruth Beetley. He was raised in Stanton and later made Six Lakes his home, where he lived since 1956.
He married Shirley Herzog on May 12, 1955, and they shared many loving years together until her passing in 2018. On September 22, 2020, Robert married Verna, who survives him.
Robert was a faithful member of New Life Methodist Church in Lakeview. He proudly served his country in the United States military, where he was entrusted with guarding President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In his working years, he was employed by Hitachi Magnetics Corporation and was actively involved with The Farm Bureau, The Old Engine Club in Buckley, Michigan, as well as Heritage Village.
A man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, Robert enjoyed woodworking, whittling, reading, farming, and gardening. He loved to travel, especially trips to Branson, Missouri, Renfro Valley, Kentucky, and Mountain View, Arkansas. He loved listening to country music and found joy in simple pleasures—like whittling flowers, hummingbirds, and roosters—and was known by all who loved him as a kind, loving family man who was never seen angry.
Robert is survived by his wife, Verna Buskirk; his children Jean (Doug) Randall, John (Dawn) Buskirk, and step – children, Jim (Sue) Buskirk, Cathy (Roger) Jones, D’Ann (Marvin) Fountain, and Sue Farrell; his brother, Charles Buskirk; his grandchildren Dacia, Jamie, Adam, Jeremy B., Jared, Jeremy, Matt, Carrie, Jessica, Kristen, Staci, Corey, and Danielle; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, and his first wife, Shirley Buskirk.
