Robert Leon DePew's Obituary
Robert L. DePew, age 91 of Big Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday February 14, 2012, with his loving wife Violet, of 65 years, and three generations, 16 loved ones by his side. The rest phoned their good-byes. A loving example of his life long goal of always having his family be excited to see him come home. The room was a warm environment of tears, laughter, memories and kidding that typified any family get together. His example made deep impressions on the younger generations. Bob was born on December 11, 1920 in Grand Rapids, the son of Perry and Hattie (Wormer) DePew. He was a dedicated lifetime Tiger's fan, avid deer hunter, farmer and Christian family man who worked for Liberty Dairy and Dean's for 25 years. Bob is survived by Violet, his wife of 65 years, six children, Don DePew of Summerfield, FL, Diane Stacey of Grandville, David DePew of Reed City, Debra DePew of Summerfield, FL, Dawn Kemp of Greenville, Dennis DePew of Reed City, eight grandchildren, Kevin and Scott Stacey, Amy Runyon, Jeff and Andy Kemp, Caitlin, Brooke and Rachel DePew, three great grandchildren and one sister, Ruth Tonkin of Reed City. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Lawrence, four sisters, Georgia Blanchard, Mabel Cox, Dorothy Hatfield and Fern Tyner, granddaughter Megan DePew and grandson Karsten Runyon. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 18, 2012 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Dan Turos officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m until the time of services. Interment will be at Highland View Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association or First Baptist Church in Big Rapids. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
