Robert Stewart Greene's Obituary
Robert (“Bob”) Stewart Greene
December 15, 1939 – March 28, 2017
Robert (“Bob”) Stewart Greene, born December 15, 1939, went to be with the Lord March 28, 2017. Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert Martin Greene and Ruth Alma Willamina Becker Greene, who preceded him in death. He was the middle child of three boys. His older brother, Carl Durwood Greene, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother William (Annette) Greene and sister-in-law Ruth Louise Greene.
Bob’s family relocated to Milford, Michigan, to a farm when Bob was a young child. He often spoke of his time as a child living on a farm and growing up in the country. He graduated from Milford High School in 1958 and then joined the military. After serving his country, he returned to his employment at Arms Brothers Clothing Store in Milford. Then, in 1961, he went to work at General Motors Proving Grounds. His career at GM lasted over thirty years.
He married Judith Ann Fournier in February 1959 and celebrated 44 years of marriage before Judy’s death in 2003. Bob and Judy have three daughters together: Jennifer (David) Stuit, Melissa (Chris) Bannen, and Rebecca (Richard) Belthoff. Bob and Judy relocated to the Canadian Lakes community after Bob took early retirement from the GM Proving Grounds. They were very active in the community and enjoyed living in what they called their “little piece of heaven.” Bob then went to work for the Canadian Lakes Property Owners Association as a facilities manager until finally retiring to enjoy his family and the beauty of the Canadian Lakes area.
In 2008 he married Rosemarie (Rosie Germain) and they remained married until his death. Bob has two step-children with Rosie: Emily (Joseph) Shea and George (Ann) Germain. He is blessed with grandchildren Hannah (Jon) Bradley, Robert (Shelby) Halley, Martha Stuit, Brett Solomonson, Blake Solomonson, Tony Germain, Ellie (Blaine) Guy, Owen Shea, Alec Shea, and Margaret Shea as well as great-grandchildren Simon Bradley, Margaret Bradley, and Harper Guy.
Bob never met a stranger and leaves behind many loving friends and family members that enjoyed his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 15, 2017, at Sylvester Community Church, 8320 Five Mile Road, Mecosta, MI 49332. A luncheon will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers contribution may be made in memory of Bob Greene to the Canadian Lakes Gift & Memorial Fund. Memorials may also be sent to Melissa Bannen at 4397 Kendaville Road
Lakeview, MI 48850.
