Robert M. Hill's Obituary
Big Rapids Robert M. Hill, 80, of Canadian Lakes, passed away Monday, June 6, 2009, at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1929, in Ecorse, the son of Leslie and Dorothy (Newton) Hill, and graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1947. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U. S. Army. Following his discharge, Bob returned to the Detroit area, and in 1955, he married Ruth Ann Hall. For 23 years, he worked as a stationary engineer for Ford Motor Company. Upon retiring from Ford, the couple moved to Evart in 1990, and owned and operated Jacobs Inn Bed & Breakfast (formerly the V.R. Davy house) for nearly 10 years before moving to Canadian Lakes. Surviving are his wife Ruth; daughter Patricia (Roy) Longton of Southgate; son Michael (Linda) of Romulus; grandchildren Scott (Marie) Longton, David (Lisa) Longton, Elizabeth (Steve) Whiting, Robert Hill, and Andrew Hill; great-grandchildren Caleb, Kylie, and Kadie; and his sister Doreen Hill of Lincoln. Bob was preceded in death by his brother Bill. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., today (Thursday, June 11, 2009,) at St. Stevens Episcopal Church in Wyandotte, with Rev. John R. Hagan officiating. Burial will be in the Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
