Robert Leo "Bob" Hurst's Obituary
Big Rapids - Robert Leo "Bob" Hurst, 78, Bob passed away peacefully in Nashville Tennessee, on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Bob was a lifelong resident of Paris Michigan. He served his community in many ways. He started his career at Curries Standard in Big Rapids, then served as a Big Rapids police officer. Bob worked for more than thirty years for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company, and was a longtime volunteer firefighter. One of his greatest passions was that of president of the Mecosta County Fair Board. During this time, he was instrumental in bringing Brooks and Dunn, John Michael Montgomery and Alan Jackson to the Mecosta County Fair. Bob was the father of two, but was a father figure to many. His parents, Leo and Flossie Hurst of Paris, Michigan, preceded Bob in death, his granddaughter Chloe Hurst (Lisa Hurst) and brother in law Delmar Hensel (Leona Hensel) of Big Rapids also preceded Bob in death. He is survived by Alice Ladd, friend companion and love, he is also survived by daughters, Lisa Hurst, of Fairview, TN and Kristi Hurst, of Nashville,TN; his granddaughers; Monique Hagler of Memphis and McCall Hagler of Nashville, sisters, Leona Hensel, of Big Rapids, and Beverly Rekeny (Tom Rekeny), of Rockford, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. A celebration of life will follow at Clear Lake Golf Club.
