Robert Walter Weipert's Obituary
Leroy - Robert Walter Weipert, 77, of Leroy, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids.
He was born August 23, 1941, in Beal City, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Thielen) Weipert, and the family moved to Big Rapids when Bob was eight months old. In 1959, Bob graduated from Big Rapids High School, and on May 14, 1960, he married Mary Kay Ankarberg.
Well-known as a banker, Bob worked for 10 years at Chemical Bank, and then for 20 years as a loan officer and vice president for Mutual Savings & Loan. Upon retiring, Bob and Mary Kay purchased Grand Rental Station, later to become Northend Rental, which was family owned and operated for many years.
Bob was active in the Big Rapids community. He was a member and past president of the Big Rapids Jaycees, member of the Big Rapids Lions Club, the B.P.O Elks #974, and the Eagles Aerie #2535. Bob was also a member of the Ferris State University President's Club, and former member of Meceola Country Club.
Bob was a lover of the outdoors, and an avid sportsman. He was a longtime member of the Wer-Hee-Gen Land Company on the Pine River near LeRoy, and he and Mary Kay moved up there 28 years ago. He loved to hunt and fish, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church while in Big Rapids, Bob was currently a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Luther.
He is survived by his wife Mary Kay; their children Tim (Joan Birkam) of LeRoy, Cindy of Stanwood, John (Lori) of Big Rapids, Will (Heidi) of LeRoy; 7 grandchildren, Chad (Torri) Alyse (Torin), Cody (Tina), Eddie (Dani), Walker, Becca, and Katie; 4 great-grandchildren, Ty, Hunter, Charlee, and Maggie; his brother Tom of Big Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Ann, and his sister-in-law Sue Weipert.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Luther, with Father Ron Schneider celebrant. Bob's family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, October 1, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Meijer Heart Center through the Spectrum Health Foundation.
