Roger D. Mitchell's Obituary
Paris - Roger Duane Mitchell, 78, of Paris, Mi., passed away September 19, 2014. Roger was born January 22, 1936 in Mikado, MI and as an infant, found his home with Ernie & Alberta Mitchell of Paris, MI. Roger married Evelyn K Mitchell and they raised their four children on the rural Paris homestead. Roger often commented on his fortune to become part of his wife's family, where he shared years of enjoyment with his brothers and sisters-in law. He enjoyed hunting, watching old TV shows, and listening to Detroit Tigers baseball. Roger was the Barton Township Treasurer of Newaygo County for over 30 years. Roger was employed as a machinist for Gardner Denver, (Cooper Industries) from the 60's on into the 80's. He later became custodian at Ferris State University's automotive training facility well into the late 2000's and up until his retirement. Roger, along with his current wife Judith Ann (Pike) enjoyed countless hours of buying, selling, and trading as they operated R & M Log Cabin, a retail and resale shop in Paris, MI. Roger is survived by his four children with Evelyn Mitchell: Susan (Norman) Carpenter of Reed City, Steven Mitchell of Paris, Sandra (Douglas) Anderson of Paris, Scott Mitchell of Saranac, twelve grandchildren & also nine great grandchildren. Roger leaves behind his wife, Judith. Judith's children include Jennifer (Jason) Mason of Big Rapids, Brian (Renee) Pike of Muskegon. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alberta Mitchell of Paris, Michigan; maternal Uncle Marcus Bloomer and maternal Aunt Genevieve Barkman of Mishawaka Indiana, and her son Robert (Paula) Barkman of California. There will be a celebration of life gathering at Barton Township Park located at 7860 E. 17 Mile Rd. Reed City, Michigan on Sunday, September 28, 2014, from noon to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice 630 Kenmoor Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546
