Roman Pross' Obituary
Big Rapids Roman Pross, 86, of Big Rapids, died Sunday, October 27, 2008, at his residence. He was born October 21, 1922, in Poland, the son of Alexander and Julia (Gretmann) Pross. In May of 1949, Roman married Erna Lemke, who survives. In 1956, the family moved to the United States, finally settling in the Big Rapids area in the early 1970s. Roman was employed as a Custodian at Ferris State University, mostly at Miller Hall, until his retirement in 1984. He was a long time member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Upon retirement, Roman enjoyed fishing, taking his daily walks, and keeping busy around the house. Along with his wife, Roman is also survived by his daughter, Monika (Charles) Knudson of Livonia; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Lucy) Pross of Indiana; a sister, Wanda (Esko) Sage of Allen Park; and several nieces and nephews. In 2005, his son, Heinz Dieter Pross, preceded Roman in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 1, 2008 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Peters may be left at the church were Romans family will greet friends on Saturday, one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00 am). Arrangements are entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
