Ronald Lee Ketchum's Obituary
Ronald Lee Ketchum, 79, of Mecosta, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Ron was born on February 8, 1946, in Big Rapids, Michigan, the son of Edgar Amzi and Laura Ethel Ketchum of Mecosta. He graduated from Remus High School in 1964. In December of 1966, Ron was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era.
On December 2, 1967, Ron married the love of his life, Darleen Moulter. Together, they shared 58 beautiful years, building a life centered on love, family, faith, and hard work. Their marriage was the foundation of everything Ron held dear.
Ron retired from the United States Postal Service, but retirement never slowed him down. He spent countless hours working his farm, raising Beefalo, a labor of love that reflected his strong work ethic and connection to the land. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding peace in the outdoors.
More than anything, Ron’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an enthusiastic grandfather who never missed a chance to brag about his loved ones.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Darleen Ketchum; his children, Ron (Dawn) Ketchum Jr. of Mecosta, Kenneth Ketchum of Mecosta, and Kevin (Carrie) Ketchum of Newaygo; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Amzi and Laura Ethel Ketchum; his siblings, Ronald Wendell, Viola, Dan, and Laura Mae; and his great-grandsons, Whyatt and Hunter.
Ron’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the generations who carry his love, pride, and joy forward.
The family will hold a private service, followed by a luncheon for family and friends on Friday, January 23, at noon, at the Mecosta County VFW.
Memorial contributions may be directed to The Ladies Auxiliary Club in Mecosta.
