Ronald Charles Steinmetz's Obituary
Age 75, of Canadian Lakes, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. Cremation will take place with a memorial service to be held in the spring at Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Mecosta.
Ronald was born January 29, 1939, the son of Clifford and Geraldine (Janssen) Steinmetz. He married the love of his life, Kay Sommerfield, on September 21, 1963, and together they grew their family to include two sons.
Ron was quite the character, he was known as the fun-loving guy that always had the best Halloween costumes and parties. Even when sick, he never gave up his constant need to have fun or his great sense of humor. Ron was also a great athlete throughout most of his life; he played golf, hockey, and softball up until he was about 60 years old. He was a loving man that thoroughly enjoyed being around kids, which showed through his mentoring of junior golfers at Canadian Lakes.
Genuine, fun, and very caring were all words used to describe Ron. He was a great father to his children, loving husband to his wife, and wonderful “Grampy” to his Grandchildren. The Roseville Fire Department knew Ron as a dedicated fireman for 25 years before he retired in 1995.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Kay; two sons, Chuck (Sue), and Brad (Crystal); grandchildren, Shane, Veronica, and Mackenzi; sister-in-laws, Sandy Sommerfield, Carole (Al) Stiefvater, and Mary (Jack) Barber, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack, and nephew, Jack.
Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Woodland Hospice, Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church, or Alzheimer’s Association.
