Roy Russell Roush Jr.'s Obituary
Roy Russell Roush Jr., age 82, of Six Lakes, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born on December 18, 1943, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Roy and Ruth Roush Sr. At age five, his family moved to Grand Rapids and later would move to Lansing where Roy graduated from Lansing Public Schools in 1962.
Roy enjoyed a 30-year career at Olofsson Corporation in Lansing, where he held many roles before his retirement. On February 28, 1964, Roy married JoAnn French. Together, they spent over 40 years raising their family in Dimondale, 50 years traveling to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, and eventually moving North to build their home, The Dude Ranch, in Six Lakes.
A man of many passions, Roy loved playing cards or a game of golf and was an avid hunter. In his younger years, he spent Summer ball seasons coaching his boys through the little leagues. Roy had an eye for the odds, often finding success at the track, whether it was the horses or the greyhounds. He also was a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous, proudly celebrating 24 years of sobriety and dedicating himself to helping others as a sponsor.
Roy is survived and deeply missed by his beloved wife, JoAnn; his three children, Rhonda Lienhart (Ray Telman), Russell (Jody) Roush, and Richard (Cheri) Roush; six grandchildren, Dale, Chelsea, Riley, Hunter, Cole, and Carter; and five great-grandchildren, Zoey, Mason, Easton, Nolan, and Emerson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Josh Lienhart and granddaughter Ashley Lienhart.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, their 62nd anniversary, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Lakeview. The family will greet friends starting at 10:30 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM. Memorial contributions to Roy’s memory can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization that was a cornerstone of his life; checks payable to General Service Board may be mailed to AA General Service Office PO Box 2407 James A Farley Station New York, NY 10116. Roy’s sense of humor, generosity, and dedication to family will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
