Ruben Carl Brost's Obituary
Lakeview-Ruben Carl Brost, age 88, of Lakeview passed away peacefully on February 2, 2020 at Lakeview Terrace Assisted Living in Lakeview. He was born on September 3, 1931 in Harvey, ND the son of Rev. Carl and Dina (Hins) Brost. Ruben was raised in Portland, Oregon where he graduated from high school in 1949. Ruben served his country honorably in the United Stated Army from 1953-1955, working as a criminal investigator at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA., earning both the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was the President of the Wolverine Brand at Wolverine World Wide for 5 years. Ruben then became the founder of UPD, Inc. a Sourcing and Import Agency based in Grand Rapids until his retirement in 1992. He settled in Lakeview, Michigan and married Mae "Estell" Harper in 1990. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, flying his airplanes and being in the hanger with his buddies. Ruben loved his family and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lakeview.
Ruben is survived by and will forever be missed by his children, Regina (Stephen) Wells, their 2 children and 5 grandchildren; Valorie (Ronald ) Warnes, their 2 children and 3 grandchildren; Andrew Brost, his 4 children and 7 grandchildren; and Deidre (Steven) Gardner and their 2 children; 3 grandchildren from his late son, Douglas. Also, his step-children, Kim (Roger) Christie, their 7 children and 20 grandchildren; and Gregory (Amanda) Cherny, their 6 children and 3 grandchildren; his brother, Harold (Libby) Brost; and the mother of his children, Bettina (Neal) Hotelling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estell Brost; his son, Douglas Brost; his parents, Rev. Carl and Dina Brost; and his brother, Robert Brost LTC.
A celebration of Ruben's life has already taken place. Interment in Fairplains Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI will be scheduled for a later date.
