Ruth Marguerite Burns' Obituary
Ruth Marguerite Burns, 100, of Six Lakes passed away on June 10 at her home. She was born in Belvidere Township in 1921. The daughter of Orton and Jennie (Giles) Strong. Ruth graduated from Six Lakes High School in 1939. She married Ivan Burns in 1942. They were together for 58 years before his passing in 2000. They lived in Clio, Michigan for many years, raising their family before returning to Six Lakes.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Patricia Burns, of Six Lakes; a son, Larry I. (Shirley) Burns, of Traverse City, a sister-in-law, Martha Burns, granddaughters, Tina Arneson of Janesville, Wisconsin and Heidi Tiberg of Traverse City; a great-granddaughter, Hayley Arneson, of Janesville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nina.
In recent years Ruth spent the winters in Arizona. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed traveling, fishing, birdwatching and reading. As recently as a week before her death she could be seen on her lawn tractor mowing the yard at her home on Second Lake. She was a life member of the Burns-May VFW Post 5602 Auxiliary in Six Lakes.
Cremation will take place with a private memorial service for immediate family being held at a future date.
Arrangements have been made through Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus. Donations in Ruth's name may be made to the Belvidere Veterans Memorial Park P.O. Box 106 Six Lakes, Mi. 48886.
