Sadie May Holt's Obituary
Sadie May Holt, 64, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024. She was born on May 27, 1960, to John and Donna (Dunn) McGorman.
Sadie grew up in Big Rapids, a community she called home for her entire life. On June 25, 1977, she married her high school sweetheart, William Holt, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and family. Their early years of marriage included living in Germany during William’s military service, where their first two children were born.
Sadie was the beloved mother of William (Abbie) Holt II, Christie Klever (Brian Acton), Jeffrey Holt, Sarah (Tyler) Roak, Mary (Benjamin) Bishop, Joshua (Alexis) Holt, and Abigail (Herbert) Brower. She utterly adored and doted on her 18 grandchildren, Mackaela, Lauren, Thomas, Kyleigh, Lucy, John, Carter, Gabrielle, Leah, Micah, Noah, Lincoln, Isaiah, Ariah, Simeon, Tobias, Maybelle, and Asher; and she felt blessed to have the opportunity to meet and cuddle her first great-grandson, Jasper, shortly before her passing. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She also dearly loved her many siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sadie was a member of the Third Avenue United Methodist Church and a deeply faithful Christian. Her love for Christ guided her selfless nature and unwavering dedication to her family. She was a great “mother of mothers,” always putting her children and grandchildren first and offering them unconditional love, encouragement, and support.
She was known for her love of baking, gardening, painting, solving puzzles, playing cards and dice, and spending time outdoors. Sadie enjoyed singing, dancing, and spending time with her family. She cherished the holidays, the many family gatherings, and watching her loved ones grow and prosper. She was a woman of great moral character, instilling strong values in her children and touching the lives of everyone she met. Sadie was also lovingly stubborn and set in her ways, but fiercely loyal and protective of her family. She is remembered as being empathetic, compassionate, nurturing, quick to help anyone in need, and deeply connected to her community.
Sadie is survived by her husband of 47 years, William; her children and their spouses; her grandchildren and great-grandson; her niece, Tiffany (Steve) Lewis; her nephew, John Wilkinson; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna Wilkinson, and her granddaughter, Avah Roak.
A graveside service will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 20th, at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids, where Sadie will be laid to rest bedside her granddaughter, Avah. Reverend William Mass Martin will officiate the graveside service. There will also be a celebration of Sadie’s life that will take place at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, November 29th, at the Green Charter Township Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a local charity of choice in Sadie’s honor.
Sadie’s kindness, faith, and love for life will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
All family and friends are welcome to come and share a memory of Sadie at the graveside service, celebration of life, and/or online at MohnkeJanowiczFuneralHome.com.
