Sandra J. Hoefflinger's Obituary
On May 2, 2022, Sandra J. Hoefflinger, lately of Remus, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son, Tod Nichols, of Mentor, Ohio, and her daughter Tracy Nichols Busch (Benjamin) of Reed City, Michigan, as well as by two granddaughters, Alexandra Hoefflinger Busch and Kyrah Nichols Busch. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Hoefflinger Taft (Rick) of Pepper Pike, Ohio.
Sandra was born to Kenneth and June (Reynolds) Hoefflinger on January 15, 1941. Raised in Gates Mills, Ohio, she attended Laurel School, worked at Hiram House Camp during her college summers, and graduated from Denison University in 1962. Before having children, she taught English and French in the Painesville City Schools.
Her work in the Lake County Juvenile Court system began in 1985. While working full time, she earned a M.A. degree in Counseling and Human Services from John Carroll University in 1993. Throughout the 1990s, she also managed the caregiving of her aging parents.
The two intertwining threads of her life, compassion and enlightened action, intersected in her environmental activism and in her efforts to help those often overlooked by society, such as Vietnam veterans and troubled teens. Sandra Hoefflinger will be remembered for her empathy and intelligence.
A memorial service for Sandra will be held at the Hiram House Camp Chapel on August 20, 2022 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Hiram House Camp Campership Fund: 33775 Hiram Trail, Moreland Hills, Ohio 44022: https://hiramhousecamp.org/support-us/campership-fund/
