Sharon Elizabeth Wernette's Obituary
October 22, 2023 marked the passing of Sharon Elizabeth (Pettingill) Wernette in her 87th year. Sharon was born to the late Raymond and Lila (Kanouse) Pettingill on September 17, 1936. Raised alongside her many siblings, Sharon’s kindly nature and ability to focus on many moving parts in the midst of a boisterous household was the training ground for her long career in banking.
Sharon and Charles Edward Wernette married on October 30, 1981. Together they spent many happy years raising children while finishing out their banking careers. She retired in 1995 with Chuck following shortly after. From the moment they retired, Sharon and Chuck traveled happily around from the Northern wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the Southern Shores of Alabama. Sharon enjoyed this time away as it made the hours spent with family all the more special and cherished.
Sharon and Chuck were members of St. Michael’s parish in Remus, carrying on the heritage of faith through their life and marriage. Sharon adored her children, grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She left a long legacy of family, friendship, and love.
Preceding Sharon in death are her husband of almost 42 years, Charles; children Michele Strom and Richard Brandewie; siblings Don (May) Shine, Ralph Shine, Ted (Anne) Pettengill, Louise Ellwanger, and Marilyn Rae Pettengill, and siblings-in-law, Barbara Rae Wernette, and Andy Fatouretchi.
Left to mourn Sharon are her children: Lisa (Byron) Prielipp, Tanya (Dick) Ringlever, Don (Nicole) Seaborn, Kaylyn Brandewie, Dawn Wernette, Kristine (Dave) Frost, Julie (Josh) Outman, and Char (Kyle) Fanslau; Grandchildren: Jason (Sarah), Erin (Harrison), Kate (Rigo), Brent (Kari), Kelsey (Charles), Megan, Dirk, Kyle, Tony (Penny), Lee, Sydney, Taylor, Beckett, Benjamin, Kassie, Alexa, Ethan, Olivia, Aidan, Craig, Hunter, and Kiley; Great Grandchildren: Madilyn, Ryder, Rowan, Elouise, Solomon, Jane, Caroline, Leo, Athena, Haylee, Cassidy, Emery, and Warren; son in law, Peter Strom; Siblings: Marcia (Rick) Boynton, Geraldine Fatouretchi and Dale (Karen) Wernette.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to The Lakeview Terrace and Hospice of Michigan for the tender care they rendered to Sharon.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 11th at 11 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church – Remus, MI, with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
