Shirley Lucille Heron's Obituary
Shirley Lucille Heron age 90 passed away Sunday July 5th at the Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan. Shirley was born October 14, 1924 in Millersburg, Michigan the daughter of the late James and Wilda (Steele) Wright. She graduated from Onaway High School in 1941 and then completed two years at County Normal before teaching in the area. Shirley was united in marriage to Jack Heron on November 24, 1945 in Onaway, Michigan. With their first two children they moved to Lansing where Jack earned a degree in Agriculture from MSU. From Lansing they moved to Weidman, Then Rogers City Then Somerset Massachusetts. They finally settled in Edmore. The family grew to four children. After raising her children, Shirley enrolled at CMU and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Later she would add a Master's Degree. She taught kindergarten at Vestaburg Community Schools until her retirement in 1987.
Shirley was a very loving and caring woman and was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a talented quilter, a creative great cook, an avid reader and was a very active downhill skier, well into her eighties. Shirley and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, Edmore, Michigan, Art's Council, Edmore Woman's Club, The Montcalm Democrats and she and her husband Jack were very active in the Fred Meijer Heartland Rails to Trails.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Jack Heron; her four children; Dr. James (Marcia) Heron of Marquette, Michigan, Kary (Wally) Herrala of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dr. Charles (Jennie) Heron of Effingham, Illinois and Joyce (Donald) Tatroe of Belding, Michigan, five grandchildren; Amy Cameron, Katie Gibbons, Dr. Leah Heron, Jason Heron and Jermaine Heron, four great-grandchildren; Josh and Paige Heron and Dawson and Kelsey De Vries and a brother; Dick Wright. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; Larry Wright and two sisters; Doris Curtis and Patricia Szymoniac.
Funeral Mass will take place Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11 am from St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, Edmore, Michigan with Father Bill Zink and Father Dominic Tirkey to co-officiate. A luncheon to follow the service. Visitation with the family will take place Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Brigham Funeral Chapel, Edmore location, with a Rosary at 7:30 pm. An additional visitation will take place on Monday, July 13, 2015 from am11 until 1 pm at Chagnon Funeral Home, 20742 State St. Onaway, Michigan. Burial to take place in Riverside Cemetery, Millersburg, Michigan at 2pm. Following burial family and friends are invited to the North Trail Diner in Millersburg for a lunch. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider Edmore Woman's Club or Home Township Library.
