Susan Perkowski Anderson's Obituary
Big Rapids - Susan Perkowski Anderson, 77, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at her residence.
She was born September 22, 1945, in Wyandotte, the daughter of Henry and Marian (Hall) Perkowski, and graduated from Wyandotte Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1963. Susan went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree, and then her Master of Science in Food Administration from Michigan State University, and her Master of Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
In 1967, Susan began her career with the Michigan Department of Education, and became the Food Service Director in 1968. In 1975, she was promoted to Consultant in the Food and Nutrition Program, and became the Coordinator in 1979. Susan was then named Director of the Office of School Support Services in 1997, a position that she held until retiring in 2003.
During her summers, Susan would spend time at her home on Clear Lake, and moved there permanently upon retirement. She was a master gardener, and volunteered for the Mecosta County Soil Conservation District, especially enjoying the annual tree sales at the Paris Park. Susan was also an active alumnus of MSU.
Her husband Thomas preceded Susan in death in 1990. She is survived by her sister Linda Perkowski Kostoff, and her brother Steven (Karen) Perkowski, both of Grosse Ile; her nephew Jeffrey (Sarah) Perkowski; her nieces Emily Perkowski and Stephanie (Robert) Armendariz; and her great-nephew Henry.
Family visitation will be held at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and then Susan will be laid to rest next to Tom in the Highland View Cemetery. A public celebration of Susan's life will be held this summer. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to a charity of your choice.
