Ted Francis Maxon's Obituary
Ted Francis Maxon passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023. Ted arrived on October 4, 1942, dutifully waiting until the summer harvest was over. His parents, Frank and Florence (Darnell) Maxon, raised Ted and his siblings in rural MI on the family farm. Ted graduated from Weidman Community Schools, in the top 10 of his class of 12 (one of his favorite jokes). He went on to serve his Country, joining the Navy where he served honorably for several years, including Vietnam.
Ted remained in Remus all his life, working on his farm right next to his parents’ home. In the mornings he could be found catching up on the day’s news over a cup of coffee at Helen’s or Ma and Pa’s. During his days you could find him working his draft horses which were his one true love. There was no distance he wouldn’t travel to go to a horse pull or a draft horse show and sale. In the evenings he would often watch the news, awaiting one of the boys to stop in after work, which would lead to him heading outside hollering, “Come give me a hand”, which then led to his shop where there was always a project going. Ted was a master tinkerer. There was virtually nothing he couldn’t make run, somehow or someway.
Ted’s love for his draft horses and tinkering, could perhaps only be riveled by this mapping skills. He was old school, traveling only the “backroads” refusing the major highways, as they seldom led to the places he wanted to be; which was looking for the bargain unfound and the horses few knew about. The man probably knew every back road from here to each coast. All that he mapped with his Rand McNally.
Preceding Ted in death are his parents, Frank and Florence, and sisters, Marilyn and Zelpha.
Left to cherish his memory are his special friend and companion, Carolyn; children, Kim (Tom Mogg) Maxon, Tim (Keri) Maxon, Doug Maxon, Chris (Maria) Maxon, Ryan (Bayley) Maxon, Jessica (Johnathan) Couch, and Leslie (John) Watson; brothers, Chuck (Cheryl) Maxon and Jack (Linda) Maxon; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Dog.
