Teddy Burke's Obituary
Teddy Burke, 89, of Hersey, Michigan passed away February 9, 2022.
Born July 15, 1932 in Lionilli, Kentucky, Teddy was the son of Hibbard and Susie Burke and brother of twelve siblings. In his early years, he left home after enlisting in the United States Marine Corp, and then found his way to Michigan. While working at an auto factory in Detroit, he met his future wife, Macilee. Together, they lived many years with their family in Taylor, Michigan.
Teddy worked at General Motors until 1987. Upon retirement, he and his wife made the move to Hersey, MI. During his years in Hersey, he spent time woodworking and doing carpentry work in the area. Teddy also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, tending to his garden, playing poker, and spending time with his family. He was known by his family for his love of nature and animals, and his joking and charismatic spirit; always making people laugh.
Teddy is preceded in death by his parents, Hibbard and Susie Burke; several siblings; and his daughters, Yolanda "Lenny" Burke and Jeanine Burke. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Macilee Burke; his son Doug Burke of Livonia; his granddaughters, Jenny Burke of Big Rapids, Julie Aguirre of Taylor, Jessica (Ben) Richards of Southgate; grandsons Teddy Thrushman of Hersey, James (Jessica) Burke of Livonia, and Jeffrey Burke of Big Rapids; great grandchildren LeAnna and Jaelin Richards of Southgate, and Jonathon and Joseph Burke of Livonia. Teddy had many friends that remember him, too.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Big Rapids Eagles 18361 16 Mile Rd., Big Rapids, MI 49307 on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00pm, with a luncheon to follow.
