Thomas D. Shooltz's Obituary
Thomas Dale Shooltz, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away May 2, 2015 at his home in Mecosta. Cremation will take place with a memorial service to follow at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, Friday, May 8th, at 11:00 AM. Tom’s cousin, Pastor Gary Shooltz, will officiate with a luncheon to follow at Shooltz’s Landing. Family will be at the funeral home to greet friends from 10:00 AM to the time of service.
Tom was born November 28, 1963 in Carson City, MI, the son of Dale and Louise (Aungst) Shooltz. He was educated through Fulton High School where he was a state wrestling champ in 1982. After high school, Tom joined the United State Army and proudly served his country for almost three years. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Sue, which was what took him back to Germany once he was Honorably discharged. The two grew their family to include three daughters before moving to the U.S. in 1996 to purchase a campground. Tom managed Shooltz’s Landing, as it became known as, from 1996 up until he passed away.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He enjoyed driving school bus for Chippewa Hills and was a known favorite of the kids. Tom was full of life and anyone he met could see it. He loved to make others laugh and would give you the shirt off his back in a heartbeat. Outgoing, caring, funny and a fishing and hunting hog were all words used to describe Tom. He loved his grandbabies more than anything and was known to be able to “B.S.” with the best of them.
His sense of humor and caring manner will be greatly missed by his wife of 29 years, Sue; daughters, Julia Shooltz, Vicky (Jacob) Smith and Cherie (Nick) Moss; sisters, Margaret Doan and Leona Allen; grandchildren, Gemma, Landen, Aidan, Morgan and baby Moss; nieces and nephews, Eric, Amanda, Nick and Brian; great-nephew, Brian and many cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send plants or bulbs that can be planted in Tom’s memory at the Family’s campground. Those who wish to send memorial donations may direct them to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
